Congratulations Keystone Athletic

SYL FEST

In their second year of USL membership, Keystone Athletic Grifos is proud to be represented in November at the North American Finals in Tampa by the U14 and U17 girls. Both teams finished the summer program strong in the closely contended Mid Atlantic division to earn their spots.

After a slow start to the season the U17 girls, led by energetic and enthusiastic coach Hector Uribe, won the flight with 2 late season 1-0 victories. For many of the core players on the U17s, this is a return to the fall tournament and another chance to advance to the championship after being previously knocked out in the quarter finals. "Each team takes on a unique personality, and this team is a group of players who really enjoy great friendships off the field and a dedication to intensity and competition between the lines. When the opening whistle does blow, it is all business for this group. Afterward, win or lose, they move forward and enjoy preparing for the next match."

After missing the finals last year by 1 victory, the second year U14 team hit the field this summer with a strong desire to be in Florida in November. However, they found themselves in a must win situation vs Parsippany in the season's final match. The winner would advance to the tournament, and the loser would look to next year's season for another opportunity. The team played through heavy downpours to earn the 3 points and cap an end of season rally to earn the spot. Coach Rob Berkowitz commented "The team was resolved to win their final match and continue their Super Y play into November. Every player on the team was mentally and physically ready to give 100% and I couldn't be happier for them."

"Having 2 of our teams make the finals is a big accomplishment" says General Manager Steve Hunsberger. "These teams consists of some of the best players in North East PA. who've committed to a rigorous summer competitive and training schedule in order to grow in their game. This result couldn't have been done without all of the effort of players, coaches and volunteers alike, and I am proud to see their success and wish them the best of luck."
