Player Placement &
Evaluations
Children under 8 are assigned to the Micro program. Space on the Travel and Intramural teams is
limited! Participation is determined by age group
and individual soccer skill. Every player must attend an evaluation session
where their skill can be assessed. Players are evaluated each year;
therefore, having made a team one year does not guarantee a position in the
future. Evaluations are held in the Spring, typically toward the end of May
(see Calendar). Once a player makes a
team, they are eligible to participate with that team for the upcoming Fall
and Spring soccer seasons. The soccer club attempts to make these
evaluations as objective as possible! Details on our evaluation
program can be obtained by clicking
here.
Please
remember that the Nazareth Area Soccer Club is organized and maintained by
volunteers who dedicate a great deal of their time and effort to make the
program successful. These are people like you, who are trying their best for
the benefit of every child and the entire organization. Our success depends
on volunteers, Please contact our President,
Michael Porter, if you would like to help.
Age Group Determination for Fall and
Spring Seasons
A player is placed in an age
group based on their age as of
August 1 prior to the start of the two seasons. So the examples below
using August 1, 2004 will determine age groups for Fall 2004 and Spring 2005. A player may
request to play up in age group; however, they cannot play down into a
younger group.
Click on this link here to calculate your players age group.
Age Group Exanples:
Player birth date
12/17/1993: On 8/1/2004, the player would be 10 years old. The player
would be assigned to the U11 (Under 11) team.
Player birth date 8/3/1990:
On 8/1/2004, the player would be 13 years old. The player would be assigned
to a U14 (Under 14) team.
Travel
The travel program is geared
to the more competitive and athletic boy and girl ages 9-18. The emphasis of
the Travel program is to develop skills, tactics, and overall understanding
of the game in a competitive environment. NASC travel teams participate in
the Lehigh Valley Soccer League (LVYSL). The LVYSL comprises over 30 soccer
organizations from the Lehigh Valley, Wilkes Barre, and Quakertown areas
encompassing a radius of approximately 20 miles.
Travel teams play in the spring and fall seasons. Coaches are required by
the league to obtain coaching licenses geared to instructing youth soccer. A high level of commitment
to the team, including regular attendance at practices and games, is
expected. Additionally, many of the teams attend tournaments throughout the
year. Players will be provided with a uniform and socks, which must be
returned at the end of the season. The player is responsible for their
soccer shoes and shin guards. Practices are usually held twice a week and
games are played, rain or shine, on
weekends. Players are expected to come to practices prepared to work hard
and focus on concepts being taught.
Good sportsmanship is expected for all soccer
programs and inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated!
Intramural
The Intramural program is another competitive soccer program for children U8-U16, the travel is generally limited to a 15 mile radius of Nazareth. Starting with Fall 2006, U-8 teams will be added with the U-8 level being Co-Ed. All other age groups are not Co-Ed. Again, a high level of commitment to the team, including regular attendance at practices and games, is expected. All of the teams attend a Post Season Tournament at the end of the year, (usually 1st weekend in November). Players will be provided with a uniform and socks, the uniform must be returned at the end of the season. The player is responsible for their soccer shoes and shin guards. Practices are usually held twice a week and games are held on Saturdays, Sundays, and sometimes both. As always, good sportsmanship is expected for all soccer programs and inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated!
The Micro program is an in-house program for children 4-8. Our micro teams only play other
teams within the Nazareth Soccer Club. This program teaches young children the sport of soccer
and helps develop their soccer skills. Boys and Girls are separated. Typically, all of our
games/practices are at Bushkill Elementary school. The games/practice last 1 hour on Saturday
and one weeknight. The games are very informal, and are really just an extension of practice.
UK Elite (professional coaching organization) will conduct practices on the first few Saturdays
of the season. The soccer club provides a shirt and socks. The player is responsible for their
soccer shorts, shoes and shin guards. Our fall season starts around the beginning of September,
and the spring season starts around the beginning of April. Both seasons last approximately 2
months. For information about the Micro seasons, click here.
